Predicting fully-developed channel flow with zero-equation model

نویسندگان

چکیده

A new zero-equation model (ZEM) is devised with an eddy-viscosity formulation using a stress length variable which the structural ensemble dynamics (SED) theory predicts. The ZEM distinguished by obvious physical parameters, quantifying underlying flow domain universal multi-layer structure. SED also utilized to formulate anisotropic Bradshaw stress-intensity factor, parameterized eddy-to-laminar viscosity ratio. Bradshaw’s structure function employed evaluate kinetic energy of turbulence k and turbulent dissipation rate epsilon . proposed intrinsically plausible, having dramatic impact on prediction wall-bounded turbulence.

Parametric study of a viscoelastic RANS turbulence model in the fully developed channel flow

One of the newest of viscoelastic RANS turbulence models for drag reducing channel flow with polymer additives is studied in different flow and rheological properties. In this model, finitely extensible nonlinear elastic-Peterlin (FENE-P) constitutive model is used to describe the viscoelastic effect of polymer solution and turbulence model is developed in the k-ϵ-(ν^2 ) ̅-f framework. The geome...

Solution of population balance equation with pure aggregation in a fully developed turbulent pipe flow

This paper presents our preliminary effort in predicting particle size distributions in particulate processes in turbulent flow systems. The focus has been on processes of pure aggregation, occurring in a turbulent environment. A remarkably simple strategy has been used to solve the population balance equation (PBE) for spatially dependent pure aggregation with insignificant diffusive transport...

Multiscale analysis of heat transfer in fully developed turbulent channel flow

An analysis is given for fully developed thermal transport through a wall-bounded turbulent fluid with constant heat flux supplied at the boundary. The analysis proceeds from the averaged heat equation and utilizes, as principal tools, various scaling considerations. The paper first provides an accounting of the relative dominance of the three terms in that averaged equation, based on existing ...

Turbulence statistics in fully developed channel flow at low Reynolds number

A direct numerical simulation of a turbulent channel flow is performed. The unsteady Navier-Stokes equations are solved numerically at a Reynolds number of 3300, based on thc mean centreline velocity and channel half-width, with about 4 x los grid points (192 x 129 x 160 in 2, y, 2). All essential turbulence scales are resolved on the computational grid and no subgrid model is used. A large num...

Cascade model of fully developed turbulence

Kolmogorov's phenomenological theory for the energy spectrum in a turbulent fluid in three dimensions is perhaps the single most successful theoretical attempt to comprehend fully developed turbulence. (1) Nevertheless it fails to account for certain fluctuation effects (" intermittency ") that are seen experimentally in three dimensions3 2) Furthermore, it is formulated in such general terms t...
